Chicago is one of the greatest cities in the world. But too many people feel like it isn't working for them.

They don't feel safe enough. The cost of living keeps rising. Getting around the city is harder than it should be. Businesses struggle with a government that too often gets in their way. And in too many neighborhoods, where a child starts dictates where that child ends up.

Matt Brewer believes we can change that.

Chicago shouldn’t have to choose between economic growth and opportunity for everyone. Between downtown and neighborhoods. Between business and labor. Between public safety and police reform. Between fiscal responsibility and investing in people. The answer is both.

We can grow our city and make sure more Chicagoans have the opportunity to grow with it.

That means safer neighborhoods. A more affordable city. Reliable transportation. Great schools and pathways to good-paying jobs. A government that works. And an economy that creates opportunity in every part of Chicago.

Chicago has everything it needs to lead the future. Now we need a leader in the Mayor's Office capable of helping us get there.

Why I'm Running

I grew up on the South Side of Chicago, raised by a mother who worked incredibly hard to give my brother and me opportunities she never had.

My life has taught me that the line between getting ahead and falling behind can be incredibly thin.

Sometimes it's a teacher who sees something in you. A parent who refuses to let you give up. A job opportunity. A safe place to live. Someone opens a door at exactly the right moment.

I was fortunate to have people open those doors for me. Those opportunities took me from the South Side of Chicago to Stanford, Yale Law School and Harvard Business School, and eventually back home to build businesses, practice law and lead one of the largest housing authorities in the country.

But talent isn't concentrated in a handful of Chicago neighborhoods. Opportunity is.

That's one of the reasons I'm running for Mayor.

I want Chicago to be a city where your starting point doesn't determine your destination.

That requires us to get some basic things right again: people need to feel safe. Families need to be able to afford to live here. Our schools need to prepare young people for what comes next. Businesses need a reason to invest here. And when Chicago creates the jobs and industries of the future, people from every part of this city need a pathway to participate in them.

That's why I'm running: To move Chicago forward. Without leaving people behind.
